Nestled in the heart of Vineland, New Jersey, Congregation Sons of Jacob stands as one of
the oldest and most enduring symbols of Jewish life in the region. Established in 1908, the
synagogue has been a beacon of faith, culture, and community for over a century.
The roots of Vineland’s Jewish community trace back to the early 1880s, when immigrant
families began establishing colonies just outside the city. As the community grew, the need
for a centralized place of worship became clear. That need led to the founding of
Congregation Sons of Jacob, which became formally established in 1925 at its current
location on 321 W Grape Street.
Since its inception, the congregation has played a vital role in religious life, Jewish
education, and communal gathering in Cumberland County. It continues to serve as a
center for Orthodox Jewish practice and traditions, welcoming members from Vineland and
surrounding areas.
The synagogue building, constructed in 1908, is a rare example of early 20th-century
religious architecture in the region. Its timeless design and historic character serve as a
reminder of the generations that have passed through its doors, and of the enduring
strength of Jewish life in southern New Jersey.
For many years, Rabbi Yisroel Rapoport served as the congregation’s beloved spiritual
leader. His guidance, compassion, and deep connection to the community left a lasting
legacy. Rabbi Rapoport passed away in February 2021, but his impact remains deeply felt.
In the years since, the congregation has continued its vibrant religious life, led by dedicated
community members and visiting leaders. Rabbi Eliezer Mishulovin now serves as the
Shabbat and Holiday Rabbi, bringing uplifting Torah insights and leading services that
connect tradition with spiritual inspiration.
Despite not having a full-time rabbi, Congregation Sons of Jacob continues to thrive.
Regular weekday and Shabbat services, holiday celebrations, and community gatherings
keep the spirit
of the congregation alive. Services are warm, welcoming, and often end with light
refreshment s and friendly conversation, reflecting the close-knit nature of the
community.
Whether you’re new to the area, visiting, or looking to reconnect with your roots,
Congregation Sons of Jacob welcomes you. Come experience a vibrant community
grounded in faith, tradition, and the values that have guided generations.
